Happy International Women's Day, from Maiya

Here at Maiya, inclusivity and authenticity are in our DNA. They are the key values that make Maiya more than a mat. With each of our mats, we are dedicated to empowering women each step of the journey. From product design to our team to our community of customers … women bring the message and power of Maiya alive.

Our yoga mats are designed by Shweta Malhotra, an internationally-renowned artist from Mumbai, India. Her designs feature the most recognized spiritual symbols in ancient art. The Padma (Lotus) represents growing out of the muddy waters of the Ganges river to bloom in perfection. It represents the grit and resilience that empowers beauty to overcome any obstacle. The Mayura (Peacock) symbolizes fearlessness and love. It is impossible to miss, compassionate and bold, beautiful and strong. The Hamsa (Evil Eye) is the universal sign of protection. It’s the reminder that growth happens outside of your comfort zone and as long as you take care of mind, body and soul  - you’ll come out stronger on the other side.

The entire support team at Maiya is currently 100% female-powered. This includes social media management, event production, public relations and back-end digital marketing. We are currently engaging with Universities in Mumbai to hire underprivileged female students; providing paid opportunities to teach entrepreneurship and marketing skills in wellness and lifestyle industries. Our classes and workshops are led by inspiring women; yoga instructors recognized for connecting with students beyond the mat.

We ask you today for International Women’s Day 2020 and every day going forward, to share our values of inclusivity and authenticity. To empower the women around you, and support the brands that share the vision. We are always excited to collaborate with like-minded individuals … please share your ideas to community@livemaiya.com
